It IS May so yeah time for a new thread.

Yesterdays forecast high of 76 failed miserably thanks to all the clouds. Only made it up to 64. Has me wondering if the same happens again tomorrow/later today? However IF timing is good ( with the warm front ) and we can clear out just a lil i can see a bit more of a severe threat unfolding thanks to the front hanging around.

No one has started an April thread yet, although at this point after enduring the past few months I'm not exactly surewhat we should be rooting for. A late snow? Severe weather? Nice springlike conditions? I dunno, but will probably see all, which may be more on track to climo as compared to what we just saw.

The original title to this thread was "So, Rasputin, what's next?" intended to be funny but changed it. Mods and Harry if you want to edit that's cool.

Have also blown away a few record low max temps. Today looks to be another as the record low max for this day is 47.. So far the low has been 57.

WINTER OF 2011-12 IN PICTURES - SE MICHIGAN

Now that spring is here, time for my annual pictoral recap of the winter.

But first...Here you will find my previous winter recaps, of the much snowier winters of 2010-11, 2009-10, 2008-09, and 2007-08. Its almost embarassing to see the snow pics of these winters compared to 2011-12 lol.

Its certainly a winter we all want to forget, from the failed predictions of Fall to the fact we are coming off an epic stretch of winters. But yes, there WAS some winter this year. So now the pics, in chronological order.

NOVEMBER 2011 - 0.6"
After a few of flurries from time to time, winters first measurable snow came the last day of the month

11-30-11: First snow

DECEMBER 2011 - 4.8"
A mild, bare winter month with just a few wintry days, certainly the complete opposite of the white Dec of 2010. Though 15 days had SOME snow on the ground at obs time, 12 of the 15 days were a paltry T.

12-5-11: 2.4" of wet snowplaster made for a pretty night

12-10-11: one of Decembers few below normal days was actually very bright

JANUARY 2012 - 10.9"
Snow fell frequently the second half of the month, but again, unlike last winter, the snowcover did not last

1-15-12: First, it was nice to wake to a fresh few inches of powder

Then in the evening...2" of 40-1 ratio fluff fell in 2 hours, briefly bringing snow depth to 4". Never saw such puffy snow!

1-16-12: Winter in the Park

1-20-12: 2.5" of sugar packed-powder snow (10-1 ratio) fell with temps in the teens

1-21-12: One of the few times a very arctic feel was in the air with 3" of fresh powder on the ground and crisp, cold air

1-21-12: Even in futile winters, mall snow piles dont disappoint

1-21-12: Cold winter sunset

1-29-12: Heavy Snow Squalls made for rapidy changeable visibility, total snow on the day 1.7"

Grayling, MI plastered and buried: Mar 2-4, 2012

Figured Id post these pics in their own thread so as not to clutter up the disc thread with a sh*tload of pics..will move to photo sec after a little while.

While In Grayling, they got about a foot of wet snow Friday night (complete with thundersnow), atop already deep, sense snow. This left a snowpack of 20-33" (depending where measured) that was ridiculously dense (wish I had a core sample). It was like walking through 2+ feet of quicksand. Its impossible to have a more picturesque snowfall either, the only downside was that many trees fell as a result of the heavy snow. Went to a family friends place and he had two snowstorms to clear out of his drive (Wed & Fri) which was a packed 16-17" of frozen dense snow so heavy it actually broke his snowplow lol. While this was Graylings deepest snow in a few years (ironically snow last winter peaked at a lower depth than it did in metro-Detroit)....the locals said they cant remember a storm that was this deep of dense/wet/scenic snow.
